Covid-19

The recent Coronavirus pandemic has taken everybody by the alarm. Millions of people in India are vulnerable to this health crisis because of the lack of quality public healthcare and sanitation facilities. Everyone wonders what they can do to aid in Coronavirus prevention and ensuring, they and others don’t contract this contagious disease. This worldwide pandemic has spread quickly from country to country, resulting in lockdowns, school closures, event cancellations and more.

While COVID-19 is dominating headlines, another kind of emergency is threatening the lives of millions of people around the world- food insecurity. This is the worst situation where we have to fight for our lives.

Vegetable Cultivation

Vijayapuram Social Service Society organized Animators, Ashakiranam volunteers, Balaveedi members and SHG members to start cultivating vegetables. The kitchen garden is promoted among the families. As the people are aware of the unfavourable situation due to the Covid-19 pandemic they gave a huge positive response to this idea. Most of them utilized the lockdown days as an opportunity to flourish their land. And people who don’t have land cultivated in grow bags. By the strong determination and goal-oriented hard work the Animators, Ashakiranam volunteers, Baalavedi members and SHG members achieved good results.

Exploring creativity by members of Baalavedi

COVID-19 pandemic has changed all the systems. This bought a significant change to our daily lives. Schools are closed and children are forced to remain indoors. This was considered as a time to explore creativity and VSSS motivated members of Vijay Baalavedi to share their talents and creativity through social media platforms. They have shared their craftworks, paintings, reading videos, songs, speech in WhatsApp groups...

Established Referral Centres (Covid Clinic)

These are centres where people can phone up and clarify their doubts, get counselling, check-up their temperature and oxygen status We gathered the data of people who are in distress due to the absence of a source of income due to lockdown. We shortlisted the applications and limited them to bedridden, cancer patients, elderly people and widows heading the house, physically and mentally disabled and those who do not have any job since the onslaught of Covid-19. We distributed food materials and wash materials worth Rs.1,000/- each to 8756 Families and to 161 migrant families...

Awareness

We had initiated an awareness campaign on Corona Virus, the dos and don’ts of life practices in the context of Corona Virus, the Covid Protocol enforced by the Government and the Commissionerate of Health. Still, there are doubts, fear and confusion among the common man. Therefore, we have designed a leaflet to be served among the populace. Further, a short film was produced to educate people on the Protocol of Quarantine.

Health Boosters

Better immune system can help fight back Covid-19. We propose to educate people on how to boost up their immune systems. Including Vitamins A C D and E contents in the diet can boost up the immune system. Further new life practices are promoted, as dietary practices, personal and environmental hygiene, ethics and etiquette in social functions etc. Awareness is given serving the I.E.C. Materials in collaboration with Assissi Hospital Mukkoottuthara.

We focused on people who have recovered from Covid-19, but cannot afford to boost up the immune system and keep themselves able to fight against a second attack of the Virus. We distributed energy boosters to 2,400 people.

Innovative Approaches in COVID response

We use the WhatsApp platform for communication, monitoring and reporting back by the parishes. This was found to be more effective than postal communication. This has prompted us to initiate an online training for the volunteers in the parishes on disaster management at monsoon.
